Be Honest With Yourself (Daily Thought)

To have the trait of honesty is to tell the truth. I believe a misconception with this word is that honesty only means telling the truth to others. While that is true and may be the general term of the word, I believe it also means having honesty with yourself. I believe what makes an individual powerful with honesty is someone who is able to be open and translucent with themselves before drawing conclusions and also able to admit to wrong doings without a following justification (justifying a mistake or wrong doing is a lie to others just as much as it is to yourself).

If you are living a life where you are unhappy with your physical health, see how many excuses you make to justify your situation. Do you justify an unhealthy diet? Do you create excuses as to why you can’t be active? How will you overcome your obstacles if you are constantly justifying them? The truth can hurt, we lie to ourselves to protect our feelings. We often lie to ourselves because we are scared of the unknown. For me, self honestly developed when the unknown was more enticing than the known. I had to mentally disassemble that protective guard because I knew I wasn’t getting anywhere with having it up.

Do you possess self honesty? Has it helped you reach your goals?
